About the domain of Hospices de Beaune
All the hospitals of France are usually owners of farms, buildings, moors and forests. They do not represent important financial contributions. Sometimes even, these assets cost more than they make. Thanks to repeated donations throughout its history, the Beaune-based institution owns more than 60 hectares of vineyards. Most of these vineyards parcels are in areas of prestigious wine appellations. They are practically all Premiers Crus and Grands Crus…
The History of Hospices de Beaune, Cuvée Docteur Peste
Jean-Louis Peste practiced medicine at the Hospices de Beaune for more than 30 years in the middle of the 19th Century. His daughter, the Baroness de Baÿ, left a vast domain to the Hôtel-Dieu in 1924, in memory of her father.
With 90% from very old vines or vines planted before 1985, this Cuvee is made up of 43% of parcels of Chaumes and Voierosses facing south-south-west. Their vines were planted on four separate occasions between 1976 and 1985. The parcels of Les Bressandes, with the oldest vines dating from 1940, Les Fiètres and Les Grèves bring the final balance to this Cuvee.
