About Château Maucaillou

Château Maucaillou is located within the Moulis en Médoc appellation. Maucaillou means “bad pebbles”, as understood by farmers of the Middle Ages. Because this kind of plot was unsuitable for any cereal crop, the main source of survival at the time. Subsequently, we realized that these ridges were a favorite terroir for high expression vineyards. Thus was born Maucaillou, a talented wine castle, since its wines have been steadily in the spotlight since 1890 all over the world. The Dourthe family, the current owner, maintains with passion the reputation of this Cru “bourgeois”.

Wine characteristics

Grapes: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot
Nose: Aromas of red fruits, black fruits and undergrowth with pleasant empyreumatic notes (tobacco)
Palate: Medium-bodied with woody flavors. Beautiful depth on the finish, revealing even a subtly spicy aftertaste
Robe: Intense ruby
Evolution: 5 to 10 year aging potential
